frech open observations

now i know a lot of you don't know dick about tennis, or you could probably care less about what goes on at roland garros. BUT, there has been some mouthwatering, holy s** Reimold style stuff going on the past few days.

The first week of a major is almost on par with the first four days of march madness for me.

All these clay court specialists. Spaniards, Italians, and pretty much evey south american is so much more comfortable on the clay than your american/brit. That goes without saying, but what's so cool about the french is that they clay is such an equalizer. Thats why Murray was stumbling all over the place yesterday before remembering how to walk, and subsequently walk away with the fourth set from your middle of the road Italian.

Acasuso, awesome name, awesome game. Some sick rallies with fed, up an early break.
You knew Almagro Gulbis was gonna be a barn burner, just like my man JCF Ljubcic, with the Croat just running out of steam at the end. And Tipseravic knocking off two tough clay court specialists in Montanes and Lopez, the Wyatt Holzbach of the tour, looks like he's gonna be a tough out. He only always seems to show up for majors, but that guy is an animal. Oh and Safin going down to a nice looking qualifier, just another testament to the depth of the men's game.

Blake shouldn't play on clay. But he somehow made it to a final in portugal on clay this year? strange.

I've actually enjoyed some women's matches more than usual so far. I think clay is the most suitable surface for the women because they are forced to come in more instead of just slugging it out there on the baselines with your usual williams sisters' power games. Thats why Henin was so good here.

Tour de France is coming. watch this space.
