stars of the quarters

diego forlan - never really been THAT impressed with him for atletico or villareal, but boy did he bring his A game this world cup. dont count our uruguay against holland either, they could win that game.

xavi/iniesta- if there are four quicker feet out there, who know how to keep the ball and weave their way out of trouble i'd like to see them. their interplay that lead to the goal was incredible.

schweinsteiger- wow, he's really come into his own in central midfield this tournament. you've got to be mentioning his name among the top 10 players in the world no? that 3rd goal where he just held his cutback pass was maybe my favorite goal of the tournament.

iker - "iker again man." In the 5 minutes of madness, it looked for a second like spain were in deep trouble, but Iker ate that penalty for breakfast, and made a huge save to stop a nonchalant roque santa cruz in the dying moments. well done sir.

louie suarez- will live forever in uruguayan folklore, even if they lose tuesday.

i say the stars for spain were cesc and pedro. Totally changed the tempo of the game. Cesc with his darting runs into the box and pedro flying up and down the wing. I think they both need to be on the field if spain is going to beat germany.

Also have to consider the loss of Muller for Germany. It could seriously effect their ability to control the middle of the field.

After watching the Germany/England game I thought, shit don't bet against the Germans...

So you know what I did 10 hours into the 4th of July party I was at, I BET AGAINST THE FUCKIN GERMANS!!!!

Granted, Germany is poised to counterattack FC Barcelona ahem, I mean Spain but its seems like the standard dominant possession team vs. team content not to possess the ball bc they dont need to and probably isnt as patient anyways. See Barca v Mardid.

Im hoping the game will settle down into a typical beautiful flowing spanish style with infrequent but terrifying German counter attacks. Germany is certainly good enough to possess when it has the chance but once Xavi gets the ball back, sendit around the horn without a german touch for a full minute.

Set pieces will have me pooping my pants and could easily decide the game but I'm going heart over mind and a 2-1 Spain victory. Villa in the 28th, Schweinsteigger in the 53rd and XAVI FOR THE WIN round about 71.
